The children who dropped by the Encore booth at the Witham Kids Fest were having so much fun they didn’t realized they were actually learning about bicycle safety. Encore Health Network was on hand to distribute bicycle safety materials, fun giveaways and fifty free helmets.

Health and Safety was the root of all the activities at the third annual Kids Fest on Saturday, August 12th. Many community organizations of Lebanon participated in the event filled with face painting, dunk tanks, a smoke house, karaoke, a medical helicopter and much more.
The educational components of the Kids Fest provided a good fit for Encore to give back to the communities they serve. “Encore believes it’s important to make statements in the communities we serve that promote a sense of well being,” said Kathy O’Farrell, Vice President of Encore Health Network. In 2004, Encore developed a bicycle safety awareness campaign called “Helmet Up!” This initiative to promote helmet safety provided Encore with a vehicle to distribute free bicycle helmets, reflectors, posters tattoos, and bracelets.

To place a creative “spin” on bicycle safety, Encore developed a wheel that children spun with bicycle safety questions on it. “After answering the question correctly (or correctly with some help from the Encore staff) the child won a prize, such as a bicycle reflector, coloring book or the grand prize, a bicycle helmet,” said Stephanie Black, Communications Coordinator at Encore.
Helmet Up coloring sheets were also distributed to the young children. All the coloring sheets submitted will be entered into a bike helmet design contest and the winner will receive a bike helmet with the design that was drawn on the winning coloring sheet.

“Overall the event was a sure success. We were able to educate the Lebanon community in a creative and fun manner,” said Black.
